UK businesses face threat of cyber terrorism unless security measures are tightened

VCW Security, part of distribution group, Voicecomms Warehouse today announced that it is partnering with US-based Breach Security, Inc., a leading provider of next-generation web application security that protects sensitive web-based information.

Oswestry, UK, 07 November 2007: Specialist security distributor, VCW Security Ltd, part of distribution group, Voicecomms Warehouse, is set to introduce US-based web application firewall specialist, Breach Security into the UK to help organisations ready themselves for the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards (DSS) that come into force next year.

The PCI DSS has been introduced globally by major credit card companies including American Express®, Mastercard Worldwide® and Visa® International in a bid to boost security around card data. The standard applies to all companies that process financial transactions by credit card. There are a number of steps businesses need to take in order to become PCI compliant. As a member of the PCI Security Standards Council, Breach Security, via its relationship with VCW Security in the UK, is keen to highlight the growing threats facing organisations that process financial transactions online if they don’t adequately protect their online payment systems.

“Few SMEs processing card payments online have the security solutions in place to withstand the current breed of cyber attacks by organised criminal gangs,” said Graham Fox, managing director, VCW Security Ltd. “This leaves them at huge risk of their sensitive customer data being stolen.”

“We are introducing Breach Security’s portfolio of web application firewalls to the UK as it is one of very few solutions on the market that actually provides adequate protection against organised attacks on applications and data that most existing security solutions (e.g. network firewalls, IPS and anti-virus products) are unable to identify and block. By installing an application layer firewall in front of web-facing applications, organisations collecting and processing credit card payments online will benefit from continuous, real-time protection from inbound hacking attempts and outbound data leakage that Breach Security’s web application firewalls offer,” he concluded.

VCW Security will be introducing the whole of Breach Security’s product portfolio to the UK which includes WebDefend web application firewall that provides continuous, real-time web application-specific security and ModSecurity Pro, based on one of the most widely deployed web application firewalls in the world. Other products include ModSecurity Management Appliance, and BreachView SSL.

Breach Security is well-known in the web application firewall market with more than 10,000 deployments worldwide. The company’s web application firewall appliances provide organisations with continuous, real-time security for their web applications, protecting against data leaks, covert hacks, and targeted attacks. Breach Security’s customers range from Fortune 500 companies to small-to-medium businesses, as well as universities and state governments.
This latest partnership announcement follows the recent coming together of Voicecomms Warehouse and Fresh Egg to form VCW Security, a new breed of security distributor.
